These songs are loosely about the 70s, 80s, and 90s, which is to say they’re about the accumulation of days, each one a little further back than the next, sometimes miraculously seeming clearer as they recede and sometimes blurring into unrecognisable shapes which are sometimes pleasant and sometimes troubling.

The Mountain Goats are an American indie folk band formed in Claremont, California, by singer-songwriter John Darnielle. For many years, Darnielle was the sole member of The Mountain Goats, despite the band's plural name. Throughout the 1990s, The Mountain Goats became known for their low-fidelity home recordings, often made on a cassette deck boombox and released on cassette or 7-inch vinyl. Since 2002, the band has adopted a more polished approach, recording studio albums with a full band while retaining the lyrical depth and storytelling that define their sound.
