Greg Abate Quartet - In The Moment (2026)

American saxophonist and flutist Greg Abate together with his quartet, the Greg Abate Quartet — featuring pianist Bill O’Connell, bassist Harvie S, and drummer Steve Johns — released the album In The Moment. Published as a follow-up to his acclaimed Summit recording Positive Energy, the release delivers energetic original jazz and modal jazz where high-intensity improvisation meets deeply personal storytelling. The composition of the featured tracks spans critical milestones in the artist's life: from reacting to the tragic events of September 11, 2001, in Realization (Living the Dash), to reflecting on the COVID-19 pandemic era in the title track In the Moment and All Or Nothin’. The music honors his loved ones: his sons (The Little Men), his daughter Jessica (Angelic), his partner Kerry (Kerry’s Song), and his late father who steered his career (CCA, a reharmonized shuffle blues). Original works are paired with a technical contrafact on a classic jazz standard (Into Somewhere) and Bill O'Connell's intense piece Black Sea, inspired by the legacy of Wayne Shorter.
