Emerging in the mid-1970s among the second wave of reggae deejays, he bridged the gap between classic roots reggae and the birth of dancehall. His signature sound fuses rapid conversational delivery, idiosyncratic lyricism, proto-rap elements, and unexpected yodeling technique.

Dillinger achieved international crossover acclaim with his 1976 smash hit "Cocaine in My Brain," which helped propel Jamaican toasting onto the global stage.
