“I never really believed in being inspired by natural beauty, but the Roman ruins proved me wrong—there, thoughts just come flooding in.” With these words, Richard Strauss described the creation of his tone poem “Aus Italien,” which captures impressions of Rome, the beach at Sorrento, and Neapolitan folk life. The work is complemented by selected orchestral songs, which were performed at the Richard Strauss Days in Garmisch-Partenkirchen together with the Munich Radio Orchestra under the direction of Rémy Ballot and soprano Joo-Anne Bitter. The program combines “Aus Italien” with the orchestral songs “Ich liebe Dich,” “Mein Auge,” “Meinem Kinde,” “Winterweihe,” and “Morgen!”
