Upper Wilds - Mercury (2026)

Brooklyn power-trio Upper Wilds, led by Dan Friel (Dan Friel) (formerly of Parts & Labor), has released their fourth full-length album, "Mercury". Concluding their space-themed series ("Mars", "Venus", "Jupiter"), the band pivots toward darker subjects of mortality, skin cancer, climate change, and existential angst. Musically, the record — tracked by engineer Travis Harrison (Travis Harrison) — features blistering speeds and explosive arrangements, fusing noise rock, space rock, and fuzz pop. The lineup includes bassist Jason Binnick (Jason Binnick), drummer Jeff Ottenbacher (Jeff Ottenbacher), multi-instrumentalist Jeff Tobias (Jeff Tobias) of Sunwatchers playing an electronic wind instrument, and guest vocalist Erin Dawson (Erin Dawson) from the experimental black metal band Genital Shame.
