Runar Netland - First, everything (2026) [Hi-Res]

Norwegian drummer and composer Runar Netland, following nearly a decade of studio and live performance work, releases his debut solo album, First, Everything. The musical concept of the record is structured as a dynamic journey from monophonic restraint and stillness to multi-layered stereo sound, seamlessly blending composed structures with open improvisation within contemporary jazz.

The primary inspiration for the album stems from Netland's extensive skiing and running sessions through the forest landscapes of Lillomarka and Nordmarka near Oslo. Natural cycles, environmental rhythms, and themes of permanence shape the album's rich soundscapes. In addition to drums, Runar Netland incorporates piano, synthesizers, drum machines, and samples, blending them into an acoustic ensemble featuring pianist Andreas Ulvo, pedal steel and acoustic guitarist Mathias Marstrander, double bassist Martin Ulltang, trumpeter Lyder Øvreås Røed, cellist Sunniva Lilian Shaw Of-Tordarroch, and synthesizer player Olav Barmen Trollebø. The album was mixed by Njål Paulsberg and mastered by Espen Høydalsvik.
