VA - Mulher Popular Brasileira: Deleituras (2012)

In a tribute to Brazilian women, the Deck label is releasing the compilation *Mulher Popular Brasileira – Releituras* in April. As the title’s play on words suggests, the album features 14 MPB (Brazilian Popular Music) hits performed by prominent female singers. Fernanda Takai lends her voice to "Insensatez" by Tom Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes. Rita Lee contributes "Pra Você Eu Digo Sim," her own version of the John Lennon and Paul McCartney hit "If I Fell." Marcia Castro presents a highly personal reinterpretation of "Preta Pretinha" by Novos Baianos. Samba artist Teresa Cristina performs "Para um Amor no Recife" by Paulinho da Viola; Mônica Salmaso sings "Alvorecer" by Clara Nunes; and Lisa Ono performs "Falando de Amor" by Tom Jobim. Also participating in the project are Rosa Passos ("Curare"), Fafá de Belém ("Sem Companhia"), Roberta Campos ("Quem Sabe Isso Quer Dizer Amor"), Leila Maria ("Seu Tipo"), Nila Branco ("Eu Sei"), Milena Monteiro ("Esperando Aviões"), Wanda Sá ("Domingo Azul do Mar"), and Adriana Maciel ("Acabou Chorare"). It is a selection of memorable songs—full of emotion and strength—that truly reflects the spirit of the Brazilian woman.
