Legendary saxophonist Don Menza, who began his musical journey at age 13 in Buffalo, built an extraordinary career spanning both sides of the Atlantic. Following his service with the 7th Army Band, he performed with the Maynard Ferguson Orchestra and Stan Kenton's band before relocating to Munich at the invitation of Max Greger. He later collaborated with the Buddy Rich Big Band, Elvin Jones, Louie Bellson, Henry Mancini, Leonard Cohen, and Natalie Cole.

Maintaining a lifelong connection to the European jazz scene, Don Menza set out during a tour to realize a personal passion project inspired by his close friend Sonny Rollins and his classic trio recordings like A Night at the Village Vanguard. Omitting harmony instruments, Menza formed a stripped-down trio with Bernd Reiter and Markus Schieferdecker, joined by New York trumpeter Joe Magnarelli as a special guest. Captured live at the legendary Le Pirate club in Rosenheim, these performances mark the final document of the jazz master's legacy, defined by fiery enthusiasm and unadulterated authenticity.
