The second installment of the SoulShaker series is a compilation showcasing the contemporary funk, soul, and groovy club scene of that era. Unlike numerous compilations built predominantly on classic 60s and 70s recordings, SoulShaker turns its focus toward a new wave of artists who consciously work within the aesthetics of vintage soul, funk, boogaloo, and instrumental groove. Bringing together British, American, and European musicians—including Speedometer, Big Boss Man, Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, Quantic, Link Quartet, Nick Rossi Set, Smoove, and others—the result is a highly cohesive tracklist that spans everything from heavy instrumental funk and boogaloo to vocal soul and more club-oriented cuts. Particularly noteworthy are the early tracks by Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, Quantic feat. Spanky Wilson, Speedometer, and Link Quartet—artists who would later become well-known staples among fans of the modern soul/funk scene.The compilation was released in 2005 by Record Kicks, an Italian independent record label specializing in contemporary soul, funk, and groove music. SoulShaker Vol. 2 continues the concept established by the first volume, shining a spotlight on the modern scene rather than archival recordings.
