Wau Wau Collectif - Teranga (2026) [Hi-Res]

Cross-cultural collective Wau Wau Collectif, founded in 2018 in the village of Toubab Dialaw by Senegalese musician Arouna Kane and Swedish producer Karl-Jonas Winquist, presents their album Teranga. The record concludes a release trilogy that includes Yaral Sa Doom (2021) and Mariage (2022). Taking its name from the Wolof concept of hospitality and welcoming, the project evolved from remote digital file-sharing into a collaborative effort bringing together 26 musicians and songwriters across Senegal, Sweden, and France. Final mixing and production were completed during the band's five-week debut tour across Europe.

The album's sonic architecture merges traditional African music, ethno-jazz, avant-garde, and electronic textures. Traditional West African instrumentation—including balafon, ngoni, and calabash—is layered alongside cello, saxophone, violin, and omnichord. The compositions transition between dreamy, meditative atmospheres, Middle Eastern-influenced guitar lines on tracks like Oh, Africa, and raw studio energy reminiscent of Amadou & Mariam on 100 ans. The recording captures a human, organic sound born out of modern digital connectivity and international collaboration.
