Koma - SPIRITS (2026) [Hi-Res]

Musicians Keïta Janota, Anthony Jouravsky, Ornella Noulet, and Martin Blouet, who previously collaborated in groups such as AMG and OLA TUNJI, formed the quartet KOMA under the guidance of Antoine Rajon. Bound by a shared dedication to modal jazz, the group participated in a "Jazz On The Moment" recording session for the KOMOS label's Analog Home Session series.

The album was captured in a residential living room in Burgundy, equipped with vintage analog gear by sound engineer Christian Hierro. Operating without prior rehearsals and preparing for only a few hours before rolling the tape, the ensemble recorded the material in the exact sequence in which it appears on the final release. The tracklist features two pure improvisations, a composition by Keïta Janota presented in two versions, the recording debut of vibraphonist Martin Blouet, and an ambient-tinged arrangement of Bill Lee's "John Coltrane." Operating without drums, the unusual line-up of two saxophones, vibraphonist, and double bassist delivers a lyrical, meditative acoustic profile.
