Village People - Village People (1977)

The self-titled debut album by the American group Village People, produced by Henri Belolo and Jacques Morali, served as an explicit manifesto of Disco era gay culture. Created with key artistic input from Philadelphia arranger and songwriter Phil Hurtt, the record features four high-energy tracks: "San Francisco (You've Got Me)," "In Hollywood (Everybody Is a Star)," "Fire Island," and "Village People."

Clocking in at just over 20 minutes, the musical framework relies on driving, non-stop dance rhythms, powerful vocal arrangements, and a unified sonic template. The group's theatrical visual identity—centered around flamboyant, character-driven costumes—became an integral element of the Village People brand, paving the way for their commercial success within Dance and Euro-Disco.
