Savant Flâneur - Hocketus (2026) [Hi-Res]

“Hocketus”, a collaborative album by Gage Salnikowski and Nathan Krahn, presents an experimental work for violin, cello, and electronics. Built upon custom MaxMSP patches, the release establishes an interactive framework where real-time electronic processing dictates the boundaries of performance by interrupting audio signals, overriding pitch, or manipulating the balance of control between the two musicians.

Rather than approaching improvisation as unrestrained expression, the project embeds the performers within responsive, constrained environments. The algorithmic systems act as a structural framework to examine concepts of hierarchy, negotiation, conflict, and cooperation, drawing parallels to broader social, cultural, and political systems.

Across five compositions (“Interruptus”, “Sublimate”, “Hocketus”, “Hot Scorpions”, and “Provocation”), the album systematically introduces distinct electronic rules that converge in the final track. Musically, “Hocketus” merges elements of noise, free improvisation, drone, and contemporary experimental music, referencing the influences of John Zorn, Henry Flynt, and Kali Malone.
