Ever After brings together Danish vibraphonist Martin Fabricius with bassist Steve Swallow, guitarist Brad Shepik and drummer Claes Brøndal, recorded live at Southampton Arts Center in New York in 2018.
The eight tracks combine compositions by Fabricius and Swallow. With vibraphone, guitar, electric bass and drums, the instrumentation recalls some of Swallow’s work with Gary Burton and Pat Metheny. Fabricius studied vibraphone with Burton at Berklee, making this musical connection a natural part of the album’s story.
Reviewing the album for UK Jazz News, Kevin Appleby writes: “Listening to the ease with which the collective works and the music flows I wonder what their path might have been.” He concludes: “It’s a treat to have the: ‘What’s going to happen?’ question answered with music and performances this good.”
