Garefowl - Things That Vanish (2026) [Hi-Res]

International ensemble Garefowl, led by Ewan Macdonald, released the album 'Things That Vanish', exploring the history, environment, and folklore of the St Kilda archipelago. The band blends traditional dark folk instrumentation with ambient drones created from processed island field recordings. The project carries deep personal weight: Macdonald's ancestors participated in the killing of the region's last Great Auk in 1840, making the record a reckoning with historical memory, threatened seabird species, and ecological loss through dissonant, acoustic-experimental soundscapes.
