Plastic Soup is a monumental concept album by the Dutch neo-prog band PBII (formed by members of the cult band Plackband). The album addresses the global environmental catastrophe of plastic pollution in the oceans and the formation of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. PBII joined forces with the environmental organization Plastic Soup Foundation and hired symphonic arrangers to create a socially conscious art-rock manifesto. The music combines the energetic structure of Dutch neo-prog from the 1980s and 1990s with rich, cinematic orchestrations, vocal polyphony, and conceptual dramaturgy.
