Or Bareket - Ayin (2026) [Hi-Res]

The Israeli double bassist and composer Or Bareket releases his new album “Ayin” on Enja & Yellowbird; the Black Vinyl edition appears as a separate LP. Bareket is distinguished by his lyrical tone and rhythmic precision, and the double bass is his central voice: at times percussive, at times melodic, giving equal attention to dense droning textures and delicate bowed lines. The album was recorded by a quartet in which the leader is joined by Godwin Louis (alto saxophone), Esteban Castro (piano) and Savannah Harris (drums). The compositions combine through-composed motifs with open sections in which solos and collective interplay intertwine. Harmonic turns and rhythmic displacements build and release tension, balancing ensemble precision with improvisational freedom. The themes are clearly structured but leave room for nuance and instrumental dialogue. The sound is deliberately restrained, which sharpens Bareket’s compositional line and the quartet’s presence. The album is a carefully crafted contribution to contemporary jazz and a new chapter in the musician’s long collaboration with the label.
