Tenor saxophonist Willie Morris, a rising name in contemporary jazz, has released “To Accept Oneself…”, an album conceived as a path toward self-discovery and self-acceptance. Morris takes on three roles at once: soloist, composer-arranger of the original material, and bandleader. The recording features two rhythm sections. The core group consists of pianist Jon Davis, bassist Boris Kozlov, and drummer Rudy Royston; on tracks 2 and 8 they are replaced by bassist Adi Meyerson and drummer EJ Strickland, with Davis remaining at the piano. The program moves from an explosive opening to an elegant finale, combining virtuosity, emotional depth, and creative intensity, and its central idea is the transformative power of self-acceptance.
