Pacific NW vs. San Diego quartet delivers psychedelic sing-alongs, hummable harmonies, and fuzz-drenched anthems, combining shimmering guitar tones with the intertwined singing of Dave Matthies and his wife Andrea Gruber Matthies.
Originally originating from the Pacifc Northwest, the gift machine songwriter/multi-instrumentalist
Dave Matthies has collaborated with with a long list of Northwest notables including the Microphones/Mount Eerie,
Little Wings, Karl Blau, D+, the Graves, Laura Veirs, Low Hums, Thanksgiving, the Murder City Devils and many more. He also ran KNW-YR-OWN records with Bret Lunsford (Beat Happening, D+) and was co-founder of the much ballyhooed What the Heck Festival in Anacortes, WA.
Recorded and produced by Matthies himself in his new home of rural North County San Diego “hard facts
are still uncertain” delivers psychedelic sing-alongs, hummable harmonies, and fuzz-drenched anthems, combining shimmering guitar tones with the intertwined singing of Matthies and his wife Andrea Gruber Matthies. If the sandbox in Brian Wilson's house had a built-in canopy of NW Douglas Fir and Cedar, the music might sound like this. Also always a highlight, Matthies' songwriting is standout, with clever and whimsical lyrics that are still inescapably direct in their hits. Filled out with an awesome live band featuring Dan Chambers, Felipe Benavides (Red Fox Tails), and the venerable Karl Blau (K Records, LAKE, etc.) and mastered by Roger Seibel at SAE Mastering (Death Cab For Cutie, Cat Power, etc.) “hard facts...” is a record that one should take note of.
