Laudantes Consort & Guy Janssens - Cipriano de Rore: Doulce Memoire (2015)

In contrast to his often experimental madrigals, de Rore's mass is far from being modern: there is hardly any interpretation of the text to speak of and on a technical level, as regards composition, free counterpoint is often used instead of imitation counterpoint, such as was used widely at the time.

In his religious music, "Il Divino Cipriano', as he was honoured during his lifetime and long after his death, often showed himself as a defender of religious music and a respectful follower of tradition, rather than as an experimental composer as in his Italian madrigals. Nevertheless, this certainly did not make him less "divino", on the contrary.
