After Bernd Varell had produced the Petard’s first LP record, Sigi Loch took over the role of supervisor on behalf of Liberty Records Germany. Loch later founded ACT Records, one of the most renowned European contemporary jazz labels. The cooperation with Sigi Loch came into fruition through the recommendation of producers and promoters, Lippmann+Rau.
In the studio the Petards proved to be artists with a high expertise, professional musicians with great stage experience. So they recorded the single Pretty Liza in only 30 minutes (but needed 14 hours for the B-side Rainbows And Butterflies...). However, for the second album, the technical effort was not yet as immens as in later productions for future releases. In terms of sound, 'The Petards' is based on the band's most successful album at the time, the debut LP 'A Deeper Blue', which sold more than 100,000 copies.
Bear Family releases this self-titled 2nd album with the original artwork and on 180-gram heavy vinyl with additional inserts, a short biography of the band in German and English as well as a reproduction of the original DIN-A3 poster! This record is the second of a total of four scheduled vinyl re-releases from the heydays of The Petards.
