Jason Moran - Artist In Residence (2006)

Jason Moran continues to blaze his own path with 'Artist in Residence', which includes new works commissioned by major U.S. arts institutions. "Break Down," "Milestone," "Cradle Song" & "Artists Ought to be Writing" are from the work Milestone, commissioned by the Walker Art Centre. "RAIN" was commissioned by Jazz @ Lincoln Centre, and the songs "Refraction 1," "Arizona Landscape" & "He puts on his Coat and Leaves" are from The Shape, the Scent, the Feel of Things, commissioned by Joan Jonas and the Dia Art Foundation. "The overall concept was to document compositions that individuals/institutions commissioned. Also this is one of the few times I have an album where ALL of the music is representational.
