Christine Day - Cover My Soul (2004)

There are about a millions of albums out there covering classics but very few artists managed to put their stamp on this often timeless music. Christine Day deconstructed, reconstructed and eventually made the 10 songs on this CD her own. Gifted with a sultry voice, Day can be described as a jazzy mix of Lisa Stansfield and Sade. Her versions of "People Make The World Go Round", "Can't Find My Way Home" (the most original result of the bunch), "Fields Of Gold" or "Time After Time" sound as if they had originally been written by Day. Brandon Fields adds his magic touch and proves once again that he is an absolutely unique sax player. The line-up features heavy-weights like Lenny Castro, Ray Fuller or Herman Matthews and their presence is definitively felt in a very positive way. This is a wonderful CD.
