Aterciopelados - Claroscura (2018)

It's hard to sum up the sound of Aterciopelados—and the Colombian alt-rock duo like it that way. Since their emergence in the early '90s, they've folded everything from country to reggae into their shape-shifting albums, even occasionally ditching the guitars entirely for sleek electronics. Claroscura is another dizzying twist in their repertoire, perhaps their most pop-focused and polished set of tunes yet. It's also their most eclectic album in years, and they sound revitalized, finding new thrills in euphoric house music ("Tu Amor Es"), candied reggaetón ("Despierta Mujer"), smoldering '60s soul ("Tumbao"), and so much more.
