Born and raised in New York, Joel's beginnings go back to trying to teach himself pieces by ear. Later, he played in local bands and especially in the church. As part of the Neo Soul Generation, he left opportunities to work with protagonists such as Eryka Badu, Jill Scott, and opted for the jazz track.
For several years he was traveling around the world with Roy Hargrove. He also worked with Terrance Blanchard, Curtis Fuller, Gary Thomas, Jimmy Cobb and others. His own projects include duo and trio recordings as well as recordings of his music with the Kiev Radio Orchestra. Today, under the name iWonder, he also produces electronic material from techno to house to hip hop.
His dark piano sound, starting from McCoy Tyner, reaching into the playfulness of Ahmad Jamal, always with emphasis on groove, brought him several prizes and ao. two Grammy nominations. In Wittlich he will combine classic trio sound with hip-hop influences with The Green House Expansion.
