David Geringas & Ian Fountain - Hindemith: Three Pieces, Op. 8; Sonata, Op. 25.3; Sonata, Op. 11.3; Meditation from 'Nobilissima Visione' (2015) [Hi-Res]

Il ne s’agit pas d’une intégrale des œuvres de Hindemith pour violoncelle, puisque n’y figure pas – par simple manque de place – la Sonate de 1948, une petite série de variations et quelques pièces isolées mineures. Mais l’auditeur dispose ici de la grande majorité des pièces consacrées par le compositeur à l’instrument, que ce soit accompagné au piano ou en solo. Entre l’Op. 8 et l’Op. 25, on navigue entre 1917 et 1923, ce sont donc des travaux de la première maturité, encore assez chargés de postromantisme pour les Trois pièces Op. 8. Mais dès la Sonate Op. 11/3, voilà le Hindemith que l’on connaît, avec son humour discret, ses incursions de plus en plus fréquentes dans le monde contrapuntique d’une part, polytonal d’autre part. Enfin, la Sonate pour violoncelle solo Op. 25/3 (une série de trois sonates dont la première s’adresse à l’alto solo, la deuxième à la viole d’amour et piano !) appartient résolument à la période de maturité de Hindemith, à cet Entre-deux-guerres un peu râpeux et inflexible qui fait la joie des analystes. Le violoncelliste David Geringas nous interprète ces trois joyaux avec joie et talent.
