Alban Berg Quartett

Exemplary playing from the Alban Berg quartet earlier in their career of two near perfect Mozart quartets. The eery introduction to the "dissonance" quartet predates (to my knowledge) all other classical works in using dissonance at all (although Bach introduced a few dissonant notes in one of his 24 preludes + fugues for piano) and then to too sweep into such endlessly, inventive, melodic music thereafter. Mozart even predated Beethoven's quartet explorations (and certainly Schoenberg etc) with the "dissonance" quartet. boggles the mind. The second quartet here- "the Hunt" is similarly marvellous with its seemingly easy melodic brilliance.
Recorded sound is fine if a little lacking dynamic punch + presence when compared with the latest + best recordings, but the Berg's play both the "Dissonance" + "Hunt " quartets here with admirable sweep + clarity.
