Imraan Khan is a New York City-based saxophonist who currently performs with several different groups spanning jazz, fusion, funk, classic rock, and Latin genres. A graduate of Long Island University, Imraan holds a B.S. in Computer Science and a minor degree in Music. During his time at LIU, he played lead alto and soprano sax in the jazz ensemble, jazz combo, symphonic band, and wind ensemble. He has studied with Andy Fusco (of Buddy Rich and Mel Lewis renown), T.K. Blue, and Richie Iacona. In addition to appearances with his instructors, Imraan has had the privilege of playing with James Moody, Darmon Meader, Benny Powell, Jeb Patton, Arturo O'Farrill, Mike Carubia, Richie Cannata and many more.
Imraan has had the pleasure of appearing at many venues in NYC and abroad, such as the Lenox Lounge, the American Museum of Natural History, Iridium and the Zinc Bar, as well as showcases like the Montreaux Jazz Festival in Geneva, Switzerland and Jazz a Vienne in Juan Les Pins, France. His main influences include Eric Dolphy, Sonny Stitt, Stan Getz, Maceo Parker, Sonny Rollins, Billie Holiday, LeRoi Moore, and Paquito D’Rivera.
After exclusively studying mainstream jazz, standards, and quintessential repertoire, Imraan began composing and arranging, and is currently working towards the completion of his first album. The album reflects years spent focused primarily on the study of more popular jazz, yet incorporates fresh Latin and Brazilian vibes. The album’s release is expected in 2018.
