Three school buddies from Sacramento (California), Ron Floegel, Tom Phillips and Tim Schmit, organized their first band in 1962 under the unquestioned name "Tim, Tom And Ron", starting to play folk music. After adding drummer George Hullin in the same year and changing their name to “The Contenders”, they turned their attention to surf. In 1965, they again changed their name to “The New Breed” and recorded a series of four pop-oriented singles influenced by “The Beatles”, including a couple on their own label, and even recorded material for LP, which was never released. In 1968, having signed a contract with Equinox Records and unanimously rejected the label's proposal to change the name to Never Mind, they were renamed Glad. Releasing one album and four singles, the group ceased to exist in 1969. Tim Schmit joined Poco, and then moved to Eagles.
