Malian-French singer Inna Modja returns to her roots with her third album, Motel Bamako. Inspired by Damon Albarn’s Africa Express, she collaborates here with Stephen Budd (its co-founder) and Krazy Baldhead (of the Ed Banger label). Joined by quality guests like Oxmo Puccino, Cheick Tidiane Seck, Oumou Sangaré, and The Noisettes, Motel Bamako is a warm opus, a road trip for world citizen Inna Modja, who shares her life between Paris, New York and London. Mali is omnipresent on this album. The powerful ‘Tombouctou’, a story about the life of women in Mali, especially in the northern parts of the eponymous city and were torn by war in the recent years, is also a prayer for peace in her homeland.
