Trumpeter Henry "Red" Allen's next-to-last album (which has not yet been reissued on CD) is a spirited but slightly disappointing effort. Although Allen plays well enough, unfortunately he sings on all 11 selections (recorded live) and his vocal refrains are rather run-of-the-mill. He was getting a lot of publicity at the time for his advanced trumpet solos, but his outbursts on trumpet are less memorable than expected, and the inclusion of the songs "You're Nobody 'Til Somebody Loves You" and "Feeling Good" drag down the album's quality. This should have been a much more rewarding album. ~ Scott Yanow
