Chicago, early 70s. Greg Herriges is a musician obsessed with John Lennon, 12-string guitars and psychedelic sounds. Rick Vittenson is a fan of George Harrison, Beach Boys, Hollies and The Who who writes for the legendary Crawdaddy magazine. Both had previously played in different garage-beat groups during the 60. Combining their tastes for pop 60, born Athanor. With the help of session musicians, recorded and self-produced three singles during 1973 to 1975 (the first one produced by Mark Breyer Skooshny cult group, with whom Rick had been part of an earlier group called Brevity). These six songs appear here by study subjects previously unreleased demos and home professionals, all recorded between 1973 - 1981, along with a new theme of 2006 in the purest vein of their 70s recordings. All with perfect sound extracted from masters. Athanor's music is an explosion of vocal harmonies "Beatlesque" Rickenbacker guitars, occasional fuzz-wah, studio effects ... Proto-psychedelic power pop highly recommended if you like Lazy Smoke, Badfinger, Only Ones, Emitt Rhodes, Rockin Horse, Creme Soda.
