Legendary Brazilian musician, Hermeto Pascoal, a man described by Miles Davis as one of the most important musicians on the planet, is featured on this CD with some of the finest musicians in Australia and students from the jazz studies program at Monash University.
In March 2012, Hermeto and his band were artists in residence at the Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music, where he participated in workshops, rehearsals and the recording of this CD. With the help of Australian guitarist and expert in Brazilian music Doug deVries, Monash staff - Robert Burke, Jordan Murray, Julien Wilson and a cameo appearance from Italian musician Mirko Guirrini the line up is impressive. Students from the Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music played an important role in the recording and rehearsal process whilst being mentored by a legend of music – a once in a lifetime opportunity!
All compositions on the Cd are Hermeto Pascoal’s. As part of the rehearsal process, Hermeto methodically ‘worked’ through each arrangement and each voicing for the horn arrangements. Doug deVries translating whilst Jordan Murray formulating parts and further arranging to suit the instrumentation.
