The fine hard-bop trumpet player Tim Hagans, leads a superb quartet on this new album recorded in New York in 2005 - with pianist Marc Copland, bassist Drew Gress and Bill Stewart on drums. Hagans plays brilliantly with passion and lots of vibrato - he has the audacity of Kenny Wheeler and the classic style of Woody Shaw. Hagans & Copland also supply all but one of the 11 compositions on the album - the remaining one being a version of Wayne Shorter’s “Footprints”.

Tim Hagans played with the latter-day bands of both Kenton and Woody Herman in the 70’s, before moving to Sweden, where he worked with Dexter Gordon & Thad Jones. In the 80’s he worked with Gil Evans, Joe Lovano, Bob Belden & Fred Hersch.
