Johan Åström - From This Moment On (2020)

With a passionate love for the music of Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington and Thelonious Monk, Johan Åström is one of Sweden’s foremost experts on traditional jazz, with a unique voice of his own.

Johan Åström holds a bachelor in jazz trombone performance from the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. He has also studied at the Conservatoire de Musique in Paris.

His performance credits include recurring collaborations with such great Swedish jazz artists and groups as Rigmor Gustafsson, Svante Thuresson, Isabella Lundgren, Håkan Broström, Stockholm Jazz Orchestra and Stockholm Swing All Stars. He also frequently performs with artists in other genres, among others Bo Sundström, Ebbot Lundberg and various salsa bands including Calle Real . His most recent work in musical theatre has been in swedish comedian Jonas Gardell’s stage show and a critically acclaimed production of “Fiddler on the Roof” at the Stockholm City Theatre (Stockholms Stadsteater). As a leader, he fronts his own Quartet, trio and septet, and is one of the founding members of the now-legendary club Lönnkrogen (the Speakeasy), which has brought traditional New Orleans jazz to a young new audience.
