Groovin', Funkin' beats and explosive horns with great soloists are typical for this unique collective!

The New Generation Big Band is a unique collective. Groovin’, funkin’ beats and explosive horns with great soloists are typical for this young orchestra, that’s always looking for innovations. The band exists five years now, and in this short period it organized many interesting projects. The New Generation Big Band worked with a whole range of soloists and played concerts throughout the whole country. After their first album release ‘Had Je Wat?!’, the band gained national fame. The New Generation Big Band is very proud to present its second album to you.

Most compositions and arrangements on this album were written by our arranger, Robbert Scherpenisse. He composed ‘Shooter Shuffle’ especially for this album and also arranged a few original compositions by musicians of the New Generation Big Band.
Like ‘Cosmology’ by alto player Miguel Martinez and ‘Wilsons Prom’ written by Remco Keijzer. Other pieces are 'leftovers' of earlier projects with Jesse van Ruller (‘Circles’) and Benjamin Herman (‘Durban Poison’).

One of the highlights of the past years was the concert with world famous saxophone player Mintzer, a high level multi instrumentalist and Grammy award winner in 2001. He plays saxophone, bass clarinet and EWI, and is an accomplished composer, teacher, arranger and big band leader. Mintzer also is the saxophone player of the Yellowjackets. Bob Mintzer played with many renowned jazz artists as: Thad Jones, Mel Lewis, Tito Puente, Aretha Franklin and Buddy Rich to name only a few.
We are honored that he recorded two beautiful pieces with us for our new album: ‘Motet’ and ‘Geraldine’, both composed by Russell Ferante and arranged by Robbert Scherpenisse.
Bob Mintzer: ’The New Generation Big Band is exactly that. A new crop of great players who are taking the big band as an instrument to the next level. The band has a distinctive sound that reflects what is happening now. Keep your eyes and ears on this band’.

Through the year, the New Generation Big Band gives concerts all over Holland. The band regularly works with hip-hop singer Senna, a very powerful singer, who comfortably rules the Dutch hip-hop scene, where she is well respected. Her music is progressive and without a trace of arrogance. She’s passionate, honest and takes you by surprise. With her qualities she has established a unique position in the scene. She has built up an impressive repertoire. ‘Chase The Pase’ and ‘Have You Ever’ are her compositions. These were arranged by one of Holland’s young top arrangers: Rob Horsting.
