Dave Valentin - Primitive Passions (1996) 320kbps

After his long tenure with GRP Records ended in 1994 with his brilliant Tropic Heat, Valentin soon found himself without label until the upstart RMM Records released this solid 1996 effort that is still the greatest of his post GRP albums. Filled with energy and the usual musicianship that Valentin's albums always display, Primitive Passions was a Smooth Jazz crossover that got plenty of airplay and the track Enchantment in particular and was one of his more popular releases. The album is practically an extension of Tropic Heat without the spice, but the energy of that album is there. Highlighted by the delightful tracks San Juan, Samba For Denise, Someone To Watch Over Me and Morning Light, which are soothing and relaxing but also fun. A solid album that I've practically worn out and with good reason, it's that good.
