Who is better suited to perform piano trios by an entire handful of great, young composers than a young ensemble? It is an added bonus that the Monte Piano Trio, although its members are barely older than students, have ranked among the best in the world for the past decade. The debut CD by Francesco Sica, Claude Frochaux and Irina Botan is almost a small revelation: who already knows the trios of Lili Boulanger or John Ireland, which are placed next to works by Shostakovich, Rachmaninoff and Mahler.
