Gil Mellé was a very interesting dude. From what exists about him online I've collected that he was abandoned as a two year old, he won contests for his art as a preteen, he began playing professionally at 14, he went on to score hundreds of mostly unknown films, he experimented with electronic music and built his own devices, he restored and piloted airplanes and cars, he had a collection of antique microscopes, and he enjoyed a good cigar. He did the cover for this album, and admittedly that's what made me pick it up. The music itself is sci-fi space jazz, cool jazz/bebop experimental big band like early Sun Ra. Good stuff, with some campy vocals that bring it down on a couple of tracks.
