The combination of cello and organ is not one that we often meet – this is actually surprising, as the silky sound of the violoncello mixes itself in such a wonderful way with the wealth of sounds of the late romantic organ. The repertoire of precisely this period invites us to a varied range of real listening experiences.

The two young musicians, Jana Telgenbüscher (cello) and Sebastian Freitag (organ) dedicate their new PASCHENrecords CD “Sonorities” to exactly this repertoire. From the tender sounds of Kol Nidrei (Max Bruch) to the downright power of sound in César Franck’s Choral No.3 in A minor they guide the listener through the proverbial heavenly worlds of sound – and in addition deliver the evidence, extremely worth listening to, that the playing of both these instruments together does not deserve to be hidden in the shadows.
