Barokkanerne, together with recorder virtuoso Ingeborg Christophersen, take us to Venice, a pearl of the Adriatic, and for over a thousand years once one of the world’s most formidable bastions of power.

With special focus on the recorder, this album highlights the music of Bassano, Castello, Galuppi, Legrenzi, Marini, Uccellini, and, especially, Vivaldi, who composed their works during the last 200 years of the maritime republic. Vivaldi’s concertos for flautino with their breakneck speed are some of the most impressive works ever written for recorder and wonderfully represent Venetian prestezza — artists working at an astonishing tempo with brilliant and effortless awareness of classical form. The CD booklet features an introduction by author Vetle Lid Larssen entitled A Floating World.

Barokkanerne, a period instrument ensemble based in Oslo, is Norway’s most active baroque ensemble, with over thirty concert performances annually. Festival appearances in recent years have included Tage Alter Musik Regensburg, the Oslo International Church Music Festival, the Oslo Opera Festival, and the Arts Festival of North Norway. The ensemble’s previous recordings on the LAWO Classics label, Empfindsamkeit! (LWC1038) and Totally Telemann (LWC1074), have received glowing reviews in Norway and abroad.
