The songs of Grieg, Edvard have always been among his most beloved compositions, both for himself, performers and the audience. The total of 170 songs he wrote often spring from a deep personal motivation, and they are always dedicated to or inspired by close relationships or great poetry. We wanted to record Grieg, Edward's music in Grieg's own villa and on his own beautiful piano. To choose which songs fit together on this CD, we followed intuition and mood. We were invited by Grieg, Edvard Museum to record the songs that make up opus 48. The poems are taken from several authors, and the lyrics are all in German. Opus 26 with poems by John Paulsen and opus 39, with various Norwegian poets represented, gives the whole spectrum from the joy of love to the heaviest grief man can experience; to lose a child. Grieg's own Steinway grand piano from the 1890s provides the sonorous closeness the lyrics demand.
