Reggae fans, rejoice: Tribal Seeds is back with its first full-length album in five years.

Representing, premiering at USA TODAY ahead of its May 13 release, is the six-piece band's "best work to date," says keyboardist Tony-Ray Jacobo.

"We feel like we've progressed production-wise and in our songwriting," he says. "We've been blessed to get some features from artists we grew up admiring," such as reggae legend Don Carlos, Mykal Rose and Kyle McDonald of Slightly Stoopid.

The San Diego-based group, which has shared the stage with the Dave Matthews Band, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Skrillex, found great success with 2011 EP Soundwaves, which peaked at No. 2 on Billboard's reggae charts. Amid their non-stop tour schedule, the guys found time to write the new album last year, and recorded it at bandmate E.N. Young's home studio in Imperial Beach, Calif.

Although he can't pick a favorite track off Representing, Jacobo thinks fans will dig the positive vibes of the new music and is excited to get back on the road. "It's been a long time coming for a lot of our fans — we've even received angry comments that we're taking so long to make the album," he says. "Wherever the album takes us, we'll be glad to get there."
