The Galician flutist and composer María Toro launches her third work, Fume, recorded in Madrid after her return to Spain after a vital and professional journey that led her to record A contraluz (2014) in New York and Araras (2017) in Río de Janeiro. Fume ("Smoke" in Galician) is the return to its origins and the closing of a circle that she defines as "a creative trilogy in which experiences and learning are fed back". As in the first two works, she is accompanied by a luxurious group and a very special guest, Chano Domínguez, with whom she interprets two cuts from the album, which will be presented on November 21, 2020 at the Madrid Jazz Festival.
Toro's flamenco jazz takes on a new dimension in Fume, named after the village where he spent part of his childhood, in Galicia, and where he learned, in front of the fire in his family home, the secrets of folklore time that was formed in the classic. The orality of the popular coupled with academic training is a constant in the music of the flutist, who in this album also incorporates the Galician tambourine and her own voice, including a traditional song. But in Fume there are also her melodies born from flamenco and placed on the jazz mattress, together with the band that accompanies her in her project:
David Sancho on piano, Toño Miguel on double bass and Andrés Litwin on drums.
