Marc Timón Barceló - San Mao: The Desert Bride (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) (2020) [Hi-Res]

MovieScore Media explores the extraordinary life of Taiwanese author San Mao through the emotionally charged documentary by Marc Timón Barceló. Directed by Marta Arribas and Ana Pérez de la Fuente, the film details the unique life of the author and her husband, Spanish diver José María Quero, including their career-defining trip when as they traveled to the Sahara where San Mao put down her everyday experiences in her book Stories of the Sahara. With a strong reliance on its solo instruments (violin, cello, flute, and piano), Marc Timón Barceló’s music describes a painful journey through San Mao’s introspection, her way to love and to be loved and the noise of her exterior world.

“San Mao is one of the most intimate, dark and melancholic soundtracks that I have ever composed,” explains Marc Timón about his work. “The full score is based on a constant dialogue between soloists and the expressivity of the strings. For the occasion I especially created the Emporion Orchestra to get the intimate but passionated, rich and deep sound that I was looking for. It’s also very remarkable the role of the melodic elements, led by these soloists which represent San Mao’s inner voice, as well as the color that the harp gives to the ensemble. Only the harp can whisper the harmonic changes like it does, with subtlety and gorgeous finesse, enriching the orchestral texture.”

Born in Castelló d’Empúries in 1980, Spanish composer Marc Timón Barceló had shown great talent and creativity at an early age. He first graduated in journalism before getting his degree in composition from the prestigious ESMUC. Keeping a versatile career, Timón premiered a piano concerto as well as songs for voices and orchestra. His scores for the animated adventure The Little Wizard (2013), El arbol sin sombra (The Shadowless Tree, 2013) and the gladiator show Coliseum: Game of Rome (2014) have all been released by MovieScore Media.
