Buffzack - Tanzverbot (2020)

The band BUFFZACK formed of the four Munich musicians Andreas Unterreiner (trumpet/fluegelhorn), Lukas Jochner (trombone), Florian Mayrhofer (tuba) and Lorenz Hunziker (drums) presents music that is difficult to pinpoint stylistically.

Without harmonic instruments, the quartet plays compositions with a fine feeling for a balanced ensemble sound, in which jazz plays as much an integral role as does hip hop - where metal riffs and alpine sounds are juxtaposed, connected by the common groove - as a basis for improvisation and interaction.

Seasoned with a pinch of humour and poetry, the four colourfully dressed gentlemen play music that swings between virtuoso solos and soothing simplicity, between sophisticated jazz and hard beats.

It must be due to this tremendous range of styles that, according to eyewitness accounts, there were some disturbing situations, when dark metal fans dreamily swayed arm in arm at BUFFZACK concerts, older ladies (and gentlemen) threw fine ribbed underwear at the musicians and leather trouser-clad folk music lovers broke out into wild headbanging.
