Hayden Chisholm - Breve (2015)

Nobody sounds like Hayden Chisholm. There is an uncanny softness, and at the same time an underlying intensity, in the playing of this New Zealand-born, Germany residing saxophonist. Mr. Chisholms alto saxophone sings out in quiet, flexuous tones that twist and turn into the most unexpected lines, skillfully juggling microtonal subtleties, creating a rustling tension with his sublime and tender tone. He is the 2015 Improviser in Residence at the world-renowned moers festival, which continues to set new standards as a marketplace for jazz discoveries. Breve (Pirouet) is his new trio CD.
