Cab Driving Man is a beautiful follow up CD to Mississippi Heat’s award-winning Warning Shot. This band never seems to settle for the predictable. This CD, for example, is at times a runaway train that switches tracks so smoothly its destination takes me by surprise. It’s a spicy gumbo with a dash old school and a pinch of new school. And each tasty selection is a toe-tapping, head nodding blues. There is something here for everyone. The tempos may change, but there is connective tissue to ensure MH never moves me too far from the Delta. For example, on Mama Kaila, Pierre Lacocque’s harmonica, Inetta Visor’s vocals, and some gut-thumping guitar riffs took me back to blues shacks I’m too young to remember. It’s impossible to sit still during this CD. And even when I’m not movin’, I’m smilin’. This music just feels so good. Even the CD cover photography is right on time. This country needs to see this band, and experience the beautiful artistry that is the hallmark of Mississippi Heat. I love the music they create. ~ michel lacocque
