In the phenomenal repertory of the Italian madrigals, we know Monteverdi, Marenzio and Gesualdo very well, but what about the others? This album proposes a few incursions into the works of much more rare composers, in particular Guaches (= Jacques) de Wert, born in Flanders in 1535, died in Mantua in 1596; Disciple of Cyprian of Rore, he perfectly incarnates the Franco-Flemish school tinged with Italian influences, especially since he spent practically all his life in Italy. For example, a madrigal of Cyprien de Rore is also given, as well as some small pearls of composers less known today - Agostini, Luzzaschi ... - so as to get a complete idea of ??what was done in terms of madrigals between The second half of the sixteenth century and the first third of the following. The Swiss ensemble Voces suaves, which really bears its name, gives this beautifully loving music with intelligence of lines and harmonies. Two pieces for solo lute come to contrast with the voices of the madrigals that surround them.
