The original Slickers "Breakthrough" LP album was released in 1979 by Tads Records. It was produced by Earl Chin and recorded at Lee Perry's Black Ark and Harry J's studios in Kingston, Jamaica.
The LP contained 9 tracks, featuring the trio of Roy Beckford, Derrick "Joe" Crooks and Abraham Green. The Slickers is best known for recording the seminal “Johnnie Too Bad” that was featured in the legendary Jamaican movie The Harder They Come.
Now in October, 2007 Tads Record has re-released the Vinly LP along with a CD version and bonus tracks featuring two guest artists.
Included are two original standards that were released as singles by Tads Records around 1980. They are Delroy Wilson's "Once Up On A Time" and Lloyd Robinson's "Cuss Cuss", plus a version of the rhythm track.
This is truly a complementary bonus to an album that has been out of circulation for over 25 years. So tune in, listen up and enjoy The Slickers "Breakthrough" and their special guests. You'll be Glad you did.
